I WISH to voice my concern and frustration regarding applying for a job and renting an apartment here in Bahrain.
There have been many occasions when I have applied for jobs for members of my family and also tried to rent a bigger apartment for my growing family. Most of the results come as: “We cannot offer you the job” or the apartment “because you are not Indian or Filipino. I find this very discriminating and wrong. If I have the degree and the means to pay for the apartment, I can’t find it right for them to do that.
People of my nationality in Bahrain are very few and it is very difficult to rent an apartment or apply for a job as whatever job I find which suits my qualification, I was rejected because I am not Indian or Filipino. That means only Indians or Filipinos can survive in this country.
I am writing this letter to make the landlords and jobs agents aware that this is very wrong, especially here in Bahrain where we have freedom of nationality which I really admire.
I am sure a lot of other nationalities are facing the same issue too.
