Challenging times

In a difficult and challenging time for organisations in Bahrain and elsewhere, the words downsizing and cost-cutting have a regular accordance.

Organisations are challenged with the task of reducing the cost of resources and to gain profit at the same time.

The effective and productive utilisation of resources is a must. Studies have shown that 64 per cent of the impact on organisations’ productivity comes from human assets.

Development of the human capital is in improving their proficiency to be capable of multi-tasking. Employees should be equipped with the right tools and techniques needed within their pool of skills and talents to contribute the maximum productive hours within the working day.

Studies have also shown that 20pc of the impact on organisations’ productivity comes from the infrastructure provided.

Organisations should strive to provide the necessary elements within the work environment to enable employees to achieve the highest levels of satisfaction and motivation to perform at his or her best.

Furthermore, organisations should focus on managing the reduction of waste to save the costs of time, effort and resources. Assessing the flow of processes to establish the need for re-engineered and eliminating the waste produced from non-added value activities that are wasteful and time consuming actions (eg multiple approvals where only one will suffice).

Automation of manual processes can help minimise the waste of processes like cost of time, transporting documents from one place to another and cost of processing papers.

Focus on establishing processes that contain added value activates and with minimal non-added activates will impact organisations’ productivity and profitability in a positive manner.

The benefits of continuous improvement of organisational productivity shall impact the quality of output (product or service), security of operations, boost employee morale, labour stability and contribution to society and economy.

Which finally will impact the organisations’ sustainability and profitability.
