Riyadh: A Saudi national who was released from the Guantanamo Bay prison returned to his country last night, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
“Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Derbi arrived in Saudi Arabia at 11:55 pm”, said a State Security official spokesman, adding that his relatives had been informed of his arrival.
The released detainee will be subject to the regulations in Saudi Arabia and benefit from the programmes of Mohammed bin Nayef Center for Counseling and Care.
Al-Derbi's was the first transfer of a prisoner from the Guantanamo Bay detention centre under US President Donald Trump.
The US.military said Ahmed Muhammed Al-Derbi’s transfer to Saudi Arabia reduced the Guantanamo Bay detainee population to 40 from 41.
