First Emirati astronaut to go into space in April 2019

Abu Dhabi - The first Emirati astronaut will fly to the International Space Station in April 2019, on a ten-day mission.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre signed a “historic” deal with the Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities commonly known as Roscosmos.

“The first Emirati astronaut will travel on the Soyuz MS-12 Russian spacecraft, to the International Space Station in April 2019 ”, said the Dubai Media Office, adding that preparations for the historic trip would start next month (July).

"The UAE signed a historic agreement to send its first Emirati astronaut to the International Space Station in the next few months. The son of the Emirates will bring to fruition the vision which began 12 years ago in developing the national space sector”, said UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on his twitter account.
