His Majesty King Hamad yesterday issued a law ratifying an agreement between Bahrain and Egypt on avoiding double tax and preventing income tax evasion. The King also ratified and issued an amended law on co-operative societies. Invitations will be sent to society members to attend General Assembly meetings via registered mail or e-mail based on members’ particulars at the society, at least 15 days before the session.

Cars abandoned
Manama: A career expo showcasing jobs in the medical sector opened yesterday at the Labour and Social Development headquarters in Isa Town. Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan opened the exhibition, which ends today. Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh attended the ceremony along with other senior officials. The expo targets job-seeking graduates who meet the needs of medical establishments and centres. A total of 41 private medical centres and hospitals are taking part. The Labour and Social Development Ministry is showcasing 800 work opportunities for medical and high school graduates, in addition to 500 vacancies.
Cars abandoned
Manama: The Capital Trustees removed 894 abandoned cars from January to May – up 10 per cent over the same period last year. Owners wishing to take their cars back will have to pay fines. If they fail to report to the municipality within the legal deadlines, cars will be sold at public auctions in co-ordination with the authorities concerned, said Capital Trustees technical services director Shawqiya Humaidan. About 480 abandoned cars were sold at six public auctions over the past five years, she added.
Ships warned
Manama: The Coastguard yesterday affirmed that legal procedures would be taken against owners of small ships that fail to fix the Automatic Identification System (AIS) devices on their ships. The steps would be taken after the end of the 18-month grace period from the date of the implementation of the decision to amend certain rules for determining the safety conditions of small ships with a loading capacity of less than 150 tonnes. The Coastguard called upon ship owners to fix the devices before setting sail.
Team in Thailand
Manama: A Bahraini delegation headed by Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani visited the Halal Science Centre at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He was briefed on work at the centre, which analyses food not compatible with the laws of Islam and provides information and training to the public and to the food service industry related to its preparation in accordance with Islamic law.
