Bahrain has generated solid waste of about 1.4 million tonnes during the first five months of this year.
It included dead animals, construction, commercial, agricultural, household and industrial waste, which amounted to 899,000 tonnes, as well as that transferred from Al Buhair waste dump site.
Statistics issued by the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning showed that in March 387,000 tonnes of waste was collected, the highest in a month, while January was the lowest at 192 tonnes.
Theft suspect held
A MAN was arrested yesterday for attempting to break into a house in East Riffa.
He initially fled after triggering a burglar alarm, but was later tracked down by officers and apprehended, said the Southern Governorate Police Directorate.
RCO takes part in festival
The Royal Charity Organisation took part in the Nakhool Tent held by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities within the Bahrain Summer Festival. RCO held training workshops for children aged between 8 and 11 and offered paintings for sale in the Young Artist’s Corner.
Premier thanked
His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa received a cable of thanks from Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) chairman Sameer Abdulla Nass. Mr Nass welcomed the Premier’s directives to amend an article of the Labour Sector Law on adding overtime hours to total service time of private sector workers.
The Premier received a cable of thanks from Egypt’s Workers Union chairman Jibali Mohamed El Maraghi, following his visit to Bahrain. He thanked the Premier for meeting the Egyptian delegation, which he described as an opportunity to listen to the Premier’s directives regarding the establishment of labour unions in Bahrain and Egypt.

Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa received newly-appointed UAE Ambassador Shaikh Sultan bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
His Majesty’s personal representative Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa also received Shaikh Sultan.

Capital Governor Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa took part in the World Cities Summit Mayors Forum, held under the patronage of Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean. They discussed the mechanisms of city development, climate change, water management, environmental challenges and transportation management.
