'Second wife' plan allegation denied by ministry

Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs has denied allegations which claimed that male citizens will have to marry a second wife as part of a plan to boost the national population.

It issued a statement refuting the fake news which went viral on social media websites in Oman.

The allegation, which was widely circulated, claimed that the ministry would shoulder the entire cost of wedding a second wife, adding that any woman who tries to oppose her husband’s marriage plan would be punished by the law.

The ministry announced zero tolerance against anyone involved in spreading any fake news on social media websites.
