A GROUP of Bahrainis are set to embark on a six-week journey from Manama to Greece.
The road trip is being spearheaded by Bahraini organisation 101 Guides, which has conducted similar trips in the past to promote Bahrain’s culture, history and tourism.
The group is expected to set out early next week and their journey can be followed on www.friendshiparabia.com.
Members of the group previously travelled from Bahrain to Dublin in 2004, Bahrain to Britain in 2008, and in 2010 they travelled to Thassos, Greece.
“This year we will be going to Chios, Greece, which is famous for its Mastic. It’s the only place where it grows,” said 101 Guides managing director and publisher Ali Mushaima.
“Just as Bahrain is famous for its pearls, so this year the trips is called From the Islands of Pearls to the Island of Mastic.
“We are going there to raise awareness about Bahrain.”
He added that the 101 Things to See and Do in Bahrain books will be distributed to people in Chios.
The trip was announced yesterday as part of a celebration to mark the 65th anniversary of the Bahrain History and Archaeology Society, which was held at the society’s headquarters in Juffair in co-operation with 101 Guides.
During the event a painting by renowned Bahraini artist Abbas Al Mosawi was presented to the society’s president Dr Isa Amin.
