Abu Dhabi: UAE nationals planning to travel to EU countries have been urged to comply with the ban on wearing a full-face veil (niqab) inside institutions and in public places to avert legal accountability.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued the advisory which concerns Emiratis planning to travel to Austria, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Holland, Germany, Spain, Italy and Bulgaria.
The list also includes Denmark, which plans to start enforcing the ban on wearing the niqab next month from the 1st of August.
The travel advisory which was posted on “Tawajudi” portal, stressed the importance of complying with the law enforced in the countries of destination.
Emiratis have also been urged to communicate with the UAE diplomatic missions in EU countries of destination for assistance or in emergency cases.
Apart from the ten aforementioned countries which ban women from wearing the full-face veil, most EU member states allow the Hijab.
