Destination Bahrain strategy a huge hit

BAHRAIN is featured in a documentary series called Arabian Journey, which has received more than 2.6 million viewers worldwide.

Details were revealed by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) during a meeting yesterday, at which achievements of its offices promoting the country abroad were announced.

According to statistics, the Saudi office witnessed a significant increase in the number of tour operators promoting Bahrain as a destination, from 48 to 150.

The Russian office has also recorded a similar increase, with the number of Russian tour operators promoting Bahrain increasing from 20 to 50 – and the number of tourist packages rising from 45 to 1,400.

Travel agencies promoting Bahrain as a destination in the UK increased seven times the original number, from seven to 49, with a significant increase in packages from 13 to 568 in one year.

The UK office has partnered with Levison Wood, who will be featuring Bahrain as part of his documentary series Arabian Journey in addition to the John Torode’s Middle East show, hosted by Australian celebrity chef John Torode – which is expected to attract more than 4.9m viewers in the UK.

A new hospitality management college, set to be opened in October this year, was also discussed during the meeting headed by BTEA chief executive Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa.

Vatel aims to train the national workforce in the hospitality sector.

“The tourism sector in the kingdom continues to witness remarkable progress and growth following BTEA’s inauguration of seven representative offices around the world,” said Shaikh Khalid.

“These offices work to promote the kingdom’s tourism sector by co-ordinating with several tour operators to increase inbound tourism, further positioning Bahrain as an ideal tourist destination.”

He added the strategy focuses on transforming the sector into one of the main contributors to the national economy.

The meeting, which was held at the Wyndham Grand Manama Hotel in Bahrain Bay, was attended by a number of diplomats, hotel manages, travel agency representatives and destination management companies.
