The Bahrain Scientific Centre for Sustainable Development Goals opened its doors yesterday.
His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa inaugurated the centre, in the presence of minister and state officials.
The newly-established milestone is the first hub of its kind in the world that promotes the implementation of 17 sustainable development goals – a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations in 2015 and endorsed by world leaders.
Shaikh Nasser toured different sections of the centre and was briefed about cutting-edge equipment as well as the programmes designed for the youth.
He hailed Bahrain’s landmark strides, ranking among advanced countries which promote sustainable developments goals.
He paid tribute to His Majesty, hailing his far-sighted vision that has turned Bahrain into a model to emulate in the region.
He also commended His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister for translating the royal vision into the Government Action Plan.
“Bahrain gives priority to investing in youngsters and honing their skills, being the cornerstone to implement sustainable development goals”, he said.
He underlined new initiatives, citing particularly the King Hamad Award for Youth Empowerment to achieve sustainable development goals.
