Qualified Bahrainis can now apply for the posts of imams and muezzins in various mosques in the country.
The Sunni Endowment Directorate announced the opening of the registration this morning.
Candidates meeting the criteria can apply for the temporary posts from Friday until the month end.
Applicants can submit their CVS directly to the Sunni Endowment Directorate or on email to info@sunniwaqf.org.
This comes as an urgent decision was taken yesterday by the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry to Bahrainise all religious professions, following the brutal slaying of Shaikh Abduljalil Hmood.
The Bahraini imam of Bin Shiddah Mosque in Muharraq was killed by a Bangladeshi muezzin (prayer caller), who has allegedly confessed to the murder.
Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Fareed Al Muftah said the move aimed to reduce the number of expatriates employed in the field, adding that the policy not only focused on muezzins, but would also be extended to imams and mosque caretakers.
