Celebrations to mark Indian harvest festival

A FIFTEEN day celebration to mark the harvest festival of Onam will be held by the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) from next week.

The BKS Eid Onam celebration Sraavanam 2018 will kick off next Tuesday with a variety of events and activities until September 7, with a grand Onasadya, the grand Onam feast, on September 14.

The official inauguration ceremony, ‘Kodiyettu’, will be held next Tuesday (August 21) followed by Onam songs and drama ‘Mahasagaram’, while an orchestra will be played the following day along with a flash mob and a

magic show by the BKS children’s wing accompanied by an eating competition.

Famous singers from India will preform during a live orchestra for a Eid special Ganamela organised by BKS and Niagara on August 23, while various competitions are scheduled for August 24.

Dance teachers from Bahrain will perform various dances on August 25 followed by a skit and Onapudava Mathsaram.

Celebrations will continue on August 30 with a dance programme and a cinematic scene competition organised by the society’s children’s wing along with a variety of musical programmes by Pravasi Talents and a Khoshayatra competition scheduled for

August 31.

Onam songs, folk songs and a dance programme are set to take place on September 1 along with the Fusion Dance and Cinematic Song Visuals and a Group Song competition on September 2.

A variety of programmes will continue until September 7 including dance competitions, a musical concert, and a floral display competition.

Celebrations will conclude with the grand Onasadya feast by chef Pazhayidam Mohanan Namboothiri and team.

Meanwhile, a function was held at the BKS Diamond Hall to reveal the festival’s logo and was attended by BKS executive committee members and other members.
