It was a very interesting letter regarding travel bans, ‘Travel bans cruel’, (GDN, August 22).
This is something the leadership should be examining closely, as too many employers use them as a punishment when staff ask for their universal rights and things like salaries.
Authorities should be searching for viable solutions that will guarantee guest workers are able to survive without having to beg from citizens and friends.
My former employer not only refused to pay compensation ordered by a judge in a civil court, but I was also subject to both an employment and a travel ban.
This means I am not only unable to earn an income, but also I cannot leave the country. I have only survived by begging for food and using my life savings, as I am not entitled to social welfare.
At 75 years of age, I consider this to be inhumane.
