Just jazz! Nine bands lined up for 12-hour festival

THOUSANDS of jazz lovers are expected to attend a 12-hour festival in Bahrain next month.

The 2018 Jazz Fest will bring together nine jazz bands performing nine different jazz styles at the Royal Gulf Club on October 26 from 11am to 11pm.

The local bands performing are Havaneros, Likwid and Ala Ghawas along with international artists Cut Capers from the UK, The Kiffness from South Africa and Indian Ocean from India.

They will also be joined on stage by Swing Ninjas from the UK, French band Avalon Jazz Band along with American artist Ana Popovic, who is the main star of the show.

Guests will have access to an all-day market, food and beverage areas along with a children’s zone all through the day along with an enhanced area for merchandise and artist meet-and-greet.

Doors open at 11am and the event kick starts at 12.30pm with a performance by the Avalon Jazz Band followed by Ala Ghawas at 1.45pm and Havaneros at 2.45pm.

Indian Ocean will take to the state at 3.45pm followed by a performance by Likwid at 5pm and Swing Ninjas at 6pm.

Performances will continue at 7.15pm with artist Ana Popovic and The Cut Capers at 8.30pm and The Kiffness will conclude the show with a performance at 9.45pm.

Along with the festival on October 26, jazz gigs and workshops will be held prior to the festival starting with a jazz workshop on September 29 at the Seventh Wave for local artists and teachers.

A jazz gig will be held at Nakheel Centre on October 5 featuring the St Chris Big Band and The Relocators followed by another performance at the Wyndham Hotel by Might Be Jazz and DJ Enzo.

DJ Enzo will perform again on October 19 along with Ala Ghawas at the Virgin Megastore while a meet-and-greet with Ana Popovic will be held on October 25 at Room to Rock.

The pre-festival events are free for all while the festival will also include food trucks, interactive childrens areas, art zones and markets.

Children aged under six enter free but tickets for children aged seven to 14 are BD10, or BD8 for early birds, while adults aged 15 or older pay BD20, or BD16 for early birds.
