BAHRAIN’S Salwa Eid Naser continued her outstanding season on the international athletics stage with another convincing victory late Tuesday night in Croatia.

The multiple Asian Games gold-medallist won the women’s 400 metres event in IWC Zagreb 2018, which was an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Challenge Meeting.

Salwa completed her race in 50.54 seconds to claim her seventh victory in an IAAF event this season.

Stephanie Ann McPherson of Jamaican came in as the runner-up in 51.20s, while Lisanne de Witte of the Netherlands finished third in 52.30s.

Eight athletes took part in the race.

Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Kalkidan Befkadu Gezahegne finished a solid fourth in a hotly contested women’s 3,000m steeplechase.

Kalkidan completed her event in eight minutes 34.65 seconds. She wasn’t far behind winner Lilian Kasait Rengeruk of Kenya who had a time of 8:33.37. Her compatriot Norah Jeruto was a close second in 8:33.61, while Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia claimed third place in 8:33.78.

Both Salwa and Kalkidan were champions at the recently concluded 18th Asian Games in Indonesia. They were the only two Bahrainis competing in Zagreb.
