MANAMA: An Arab national is facing trial for attempting to work as an accountant in his company, using a fake university degree.
He was charged with using a fake academic degree and referred to the Criminal Court to stand trial.
The Foreign Ministry uncovered the fake degrees and alerted the Directorate of Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security. The bureau of authentication discovered the fake degree, which bears seals and stamps from a Bahraini embassy in an Arab country.
The defendant’s wife submitted her husband’s degrees to the bureau employees who discovered the scam.
The defendant told the court that he had failed to authenticate his Accounting Master’s degree he obtained from a university which was closed down by court order.
He sought the assistance of a person living in an Arab country and sent him the degree along with a sum of $1,500.
Two weeks later, the defendant received the Master’s degree, officially accredited and authenticated by the embassy of Bahrain.
The court has adjourned the case until October 1.
