PARIS: Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) has called on the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) to adopt a resolution to proclaim November 18 of each year as International Day of Islamic Art.
Unesco’s executive board will study the proposal at its meeting on October 3 before it is submitted to the General Conference at its 40th session.
Since Muharraq was named the 2018 Capital of Islamic Culture for the Arab region, Bahrain has been promoting all forms of Islamic art and the values of Islamic enlightenment, said Baca president Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa.
She was speaking at a gathering held by the authority at the Unesco headquarters in Paris.
