MANAMA: A new plant and expansion of existing ones will bolster Bahrain’s capacity to cope with the ever-increasing demand for water, the Electricity and Water Authority said yesterday.
This is part of the authority’s strategic power and water masterplan to meet future needs, according to a statement.
Bahrain’s water production plants generate about 186 million gallons of desalinated water per day, it said.
The Sitra Power and Water Station produces 25m gallons per day and Abu Jarjur Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant 16m gallons per day, which may be increased, in addition to 145m gallons per day produced by the private sector’s production plants, the authority said.
Water consumption in Bahrain is about 157m gallons per day on average, the authority said, denying any water cuts or scarcity.
Water distribution network is divided into areas, using electronic meters to monitor and manage subscribers’ water consumption, it added, stressing that water available currently covers present and future demand.
The authority will launch phases 3 and 4 of Al Dur Power and Water Company in addition to a new plant in Ras Abu Jarjur with a 50m gallon capacity.
