Tunis – Tunisian President Béji Caïd Essebsi had a meeting with Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdelaziz al-Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia, on an official visit to Tunisia.
This meeting was followed by an extended working session for the delegations of the two countries on the growing development of bilateral relations since the visit of President Caïd Essebsi to Riyadh in December 2015, the Presidency of the Republic said in a statement.
Both sides also reviewed ways to enhance cooperation in various priority areas, namely the economic and financial sectors and the promotion of investment and the exchange of expertise and experience in the cultural and scientific areas.
They also discussed the consolidation of security and military cooperation with the aim of combating extremism and terrorism.
The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the reality and prospects for cooperation between Tunisia and Saudi Arabia and to discuss issues of common interest at the Arab, regional and international levels.
The ongoing preparations for the organisation of the 30th Arab League Summit in March in Tunisia, and the efforts exerted to make this major event successful were also at the centre of the meeting.
"This visit is part of strengthening the excellent and historic relations binding Tunisia and Saudi Arabia and the common will to consolidate them in all areas, so as to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples", the statement of the Presidency of the Republic reads.
The Saudi Crown Prince then held a meeting with Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed before leaving the country, wrapping the fourth leg of his regional tour which include the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt.
