ONE of the biggest and richest horse racing events will be held today to mark Bahrain National Day at the Rashid Equestrain and Horse Racing Club in Sakhir.
The National Day Cup, sponsored by Ministry of Information Affairs, for imported horses carries the biggest purse of BD10,500 and will be run over 2,400 metres, starting 4.05pm.
Shogun, owned by Al Adiyat Racing, trained by Alan Smith and to be ridden by Gerald Mosse, is tipped to win this race ahead of its nearest challengers Pressure Point and King Bolete.
Thorkhill Star, owned by Al Adiyat Racing, trained by Alan Smith and to be ridden by Gerald Mosse, is the best bet to win the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for imported horses, carrying the second richest prize of BD10,000, to be run over 1,600 metres, starting at 4.30pm.
Baltic Knight and Dawn Mirage are expected to give the favourite a run for its money.
The action begins at 2pm with the race for Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for locally bred horses, carrying a cash prize of BD4,500 and to be run over 1,000 metres straight.
Of the three horses in the fray, Shomukh, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, trained by James Naylor and to be ridden by Andrew Elliott, looks in best shape to win this race.
Stevie G and Riyada are the second and third favourites respectively.
Duwaliya, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Al Khalifa, trained by James Naylor and to be ridden by Andrew Elliott, is the favourite to win the Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup, carrying a cash prize of BD3,500 and to be run over 1,400 metres, starting at 2.25pm.
Blue Angel and Al Nimra are expected to give the favourite a run for its money.
Kuheilaan Aafas 1695, owned by Al Wasmiya, trained by Abdulla Kuwaiti and to be ridden by Brett Doyle, is the best bet to win the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for Arabian horses carrying a cash prize of BD3,000 and to be run over 1,600 metres, starting at 2.50pm.
Al Saqlawy 1578 and Kuheilan Aafar 1675 are the second and third favourites respectively.
Curtain Call, owned by Shaikh Khalid bin Ali bin Al Khalifa, trained by Abdulla Kuwaiti and to be ridden by A Rahim Jasim, is tipped to win the Shaikh Faisal bin Khalid Al Khalifa Cup, carrying a cash prize of BD5,500 and to be run over 1,000 metres, starting at 3.15pm.
Showdaisy and Tulip Fever are the second and third favourites respectively.
Snake Eagle, owned by Mansoori Syndicate, trained by Yousif Alboainain and to be ridden by Brett Doyle, is the favourite to win the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for locally bred horses carrying a cash prize of BD3,500 and to be run over 2,400 metres, starting at 3.40pm.
Al Jolan and Call A Friend are the second and third favourites.
