MANAMA: As businesses, regulators and IT service providers increasingly focus on ‘the cloud’, the interconnected issues of data migration, infrastructure development, information security and data protection are increasingly critical, according to Srikant Ranganathan, a senior director with Keypoint and the head of the firm’s IT consulting function.
Mr Ranganathan points to a number of indicators that Bahrain’s government is actively pursuing a cloud-first policy.
“The decision by Amazon Web Services (AWS) to select Bahrain as a Mena hub for its cloud computing platform is testament to the government’s determination to be seen as a regional trend-setter in the cloud space. The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) and other regulators are taking important concrete steps to encourage the adoption of the cloud by both the public and private sector. The CBB has established a regulatory sandbox for fintech businesses to experiment with innovative concepts and solutions in a controlled testing environment. Bahrain recently issued its personal data protection law. Taken as a whole, the push towards the cloud is real and is here – and perhaps the single most critical issue with the cloud is security – security of data, security of infrastructure and security of access.”
To raise these and other important issues, Keypoint is co-hosting a seminar on data and the cloud – in conjunction with Infonas, an AWS government and standard consulting partner – in Manama on January 23.
“We want to focus on some increasingly critical talking points, including data security and the cloud, infrastructure as code, and Bahrain’s unique place in the cloud.”
The seminar, which will be attended by regulators, key decision-makers in private and public sectors, and IT and data professionals, is free to attend.
It is being held at the Downtown Rotana and registration opens at 8.30am.
