DEFENDING champions Jordan registered an all-important 3-1 victory over Lebanon last night in the sixth West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Women’s Championship, being played at the Muharraq Club stadium in Arad.
The Jordanians found the net twice in the first half, before both teams managed to score once in the final 45 minutes.
With the result, the Jordanians posted their second win in as many games and are tied with hosts Bahrain, who were idle yesterday, with six points on the tournament table. Lebanon were handed their second loss to go with one win.
In last night’s other result, the Palestine and the UAE played to a goalless draw. Both teams collected their first points of the tournament and remained in the bottom two places.
Action continues tomorrow at the same venue. At 4pm, Bahrain will be looking to maintain their winning ways when they face the UAE at 4pm. It will be followed at 7pm by Jordan taking on Palestine.
The championship, which is being played in league format, concludes on Tuesday.
