A NEW BD52 million mall located on a manmade island off the Muharraq coast is due to open by the end of the year.
Dilmunia Mall is located on Dilmunia island, where it will overlook a canal and green landscaping.
It will feature 220 retail outlets on a total built-up area of 125,000 square metres, as well as a cylindrical aquarium, ice rink, giant projection screen and football pitches.
The project is being spearheaded by the Dilmunia Mall Development Company, with construction set to finish by the end of March.
“Most of the work is complete and soon we will install the cylindrical aquarium,” Dilmunia Mall Development Company chief executive Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa revealed yesterday while speaking to journalists at Bahrain International Circuit.
“People renting stores can do their finishing touches at the end of May and we expect to hand the stores over to them by June.
“We expect the opening to be closer to the end of the year, around November.
“The doors are open for people who want to rent outlets and so far 47pc of the stores are rented out.
“We hope to rent out 80pc to 85pc of our stores by the time we open.”
The mall will include a huge screen that can project images of the sky, clouds and fireworks – along with sounds.
It is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs, while shoppers can park in more than 1,000 spaces.
