A PRIVATE residential development in Bahrain has taken another step towards creating a self-sustainable community.
Riffa Views has signed a deal to install a solar power system to reduce its carbon footprint.
“Since inception, Riffa Views has used recycled water for irrigation of common area landscaping using its own treatment plant,” said managing director Yasser Al Raee.
“The solar power project is another major step towards creating a self-sustainable community that shall help preserve the environment.”
The memorandum of understanding was signed with leading renewable energy solutions company, Next Energy, whose chairman Osama Al Khajah said that over the life of the system 45,529 tonnes of carbon dioxide will be eliminated from the Riffa Views’ carbon footprint.
“This is equivalent to planting 1,060,584 trees, driving reduced by 145,659,066km, or 4,642,881 gallons of petrol or displacing CO2 emissions from the annual electric use of 5,154 homes or burning 22,176 tons of coal,” he added.
Work has already started on the project which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
