Bahrain: A rescued cat who made headlines around the world after pictures emerged of her dyed pink and put on display at the notorious Isa Town market is now up for adoption.
Seven-month-old Pinky was spotted by concerned shopper Bilal Aslam, a 17-year-old Bahraini who shared pictures of the sickly-looking animal online in disgust.
Alerted to her plight, Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) chairman Mahmood Faraj personally visited the offending market stall and confiscated Pinky so that she could be taken to the charity’s shelter at Askar for rehabilitation.
The cat suffered a serious allergic reaction to the food colouring that had been used to dye her fur and every time she tried to clean herself it would make her sick, according to BSPCA welfare officer Ghazi Almoayed.
“Thankfully, the vets spent a lot of time with her and nursed her back to health,” she said.
“Now she is almost back to her natural colour and is looking for a new family who can give her lots of attention.”
