Manama: Conditions are now ripe to establish the Gulf Union, said the Premier yesterday.
This came as His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa received at Gudaibiya Palace GCC Secretary-General Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani, who briefed him about the resolutions issued by Gulf leaders to enhance co-operation in the political, economic, security and military fields.
The Premier praised the positive outcomes of the summit and said that it would make the GCC more capable of facing challenges.
He congratulated Dr Al Zayani on being reappointed for a new three-year term and wished him success.
The Premier underscored the importance of initiatives aimed at strengthening the GCC and developing it into an entity with unified stances in order to meet the peoples aspirations. He described the GCC as a “safety valve” to ensure security and preserve the landmark achievements attained by the member states in various fields.
He affirmed that the GCC has managed to create a solid foundation of relations among its member states and set an effective model of partnership and co-operation in various fields.
The Premier stressed that the bloc has proved its ability to withstand challenges thanks to its leaders’ shared desire to preserve it as a framework for collective joint action.
“The rapidly unfolding developments in the region require us to be more prepared to deal with any emerging situations, fortify our countries against those seeking to drag them to the abyss of conflicts and destruction and focus our efforts on development through which we fulfil the needs of our peoples for a decent, secure and stable life,” he said.
Dr Al Zayani thanked the Premier for his supportive stances towards enhancing joint action, praising his wise visions and in-depth analysis of current developments.
He also asserted that the Premier’s support towards co-operation among GCC countries reflects his statesmanship, far-sightedness and outstanding ability to analyse reality and come up with a comprehensive vision to strengthen its vital role as a solid regional bloc in various fields.
