MANAMA: Two Bahraini women have made it to the 2019 list of top 100 women in fintech to know and follow in the world.
Fatema Ebrahim, founder of Andra Public Relations and Corporate Communications and board member at the Economic Development Board (EDB), along with Yasmeen Al Sharaf, head of the fintech unit at the Central Bank of Bahrain, account for Bahrain’s presence in the list put together by LATTICE80 in collaboration with Miss Kaya.
In addition, the chosen women are part of the Women in Fintech Bahrain Initiative (WIFBH) that was launched last year chaired by the EDB.
Supposedly the world’s largest fintech hub, LATTICE80 is building an ecosystem known as KAYA Network that connects over 11,000 fintech start-ups and over 200,000 professionals.
Miss Kaya – a lifestyle driven financial platform for the modern woman – led by Gina Heng has been created to address the lack of platforms that understand and cater to the financial needs of women.
The list provides a fair representation of women across different geographies and the roles they play in the fintech ecosystem.
The five cities which saw the most number of female fintech leaders in the list this year are: London, Hong Kong, New York, Singapore and San Francisco.
Commenting on the achievement, Ms Ebrahim said, “As women in the fintech space, we get to represent Bahrain and the ecosystem that is constantly growing stronger. There are several women in Bahrain driving innovation in finance and making headway in fintech, and we want to fill the gap by representing them, their personal experience and their achievements so we can make it easier for other women to relate, collaborate and achieve more.”
Ms Al Sharaf said while fintech was a relatively new sector yet it has a strong representation of women.
“I feel humbled and honoured to be representing Bahraini women in fintech amongst a host of inspiring and brilliant women from around the globe,” she added.
