Book: One Day in December
Author: Josie Silver
A lovely quick read, One Day in December by Josie Silver is a must for all chick-lit fans out there.
Not your average girl meets boy story, it evokes emotion and is not only about love but true friendship.
Great books will absorb you into their pages and this novel does just that.
Pure escapism at its best, One Day in December is so well written and is a total feel-good story that will likely turn you into a bit of a romantic (if you aren’t one already).
It will make you believe in the kind of heart-warming love that is meant to be against all odds, the kind of love that leaves you smiling just reading about it.
Meet Laurie – the main protagonist – who doesn’t believe in love at first sight until one day through a misted bus window, her eyes lock with a handsome man with whom she is instantly enamoured with.
Despite her best efforts she doesn’t meet him again until they are both at a Christmas party, where it turns out the man of her dreams is dating her roommate.
I was a little put off reading this book initially, as all of this information is in the blurb and I thought it would make One Day in December totally predictable and therefore a slow and laborious read.
It was ultimately predictable, however, quite unexpectedly it captured my attention and left me eager to turn the page and see how it ended.
By the final page I wasn’t ready to leave the characters, so here’s to hoping Silver has another instalment in the works.
As with many books of this nature, it would make a good film, so fingers crossed that happens – Valentine’s Day 2020?!
One Day in December by Josie Silver is available at all major online e-book retailers and at Jashanmal in City Centre Bahrain and Seef Mall for BD5.200.
