BUDAPEST: His Majesty King Hamad yesterday held talks with Hungarian President János Áder on bolstering co-operation in all fields, focusing also on regional and international developments of mutual interest.
They stressed the importance of enhancing relations and expanding co-operation which will contribute to achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in the environmental, economic and investment sectors.
The King commended President Áder’s role in supporting sustainability and stressing the dire need to take concrete and efficient steps to tackle climate change and the water challenge facing the world.
He congratulated him on his appointment to a high-level UN team on water.
The King outlined Bahrain’s steps to achieve the SDGs, pointing out that 78 per cent of the objectives have been incorporated in Bahrain’s Government Action Plan.
His Majesty said Bahrain is signatory to the Paris Climate Agreement and has submitted proposals to the agreement secretariat on reducing climate change in the world.
The King and President Áder called for the joint economic committee to meet soon and activate the memorandum of understanding which was signed between the two countries on promoting economic and technical co-operation.
They stressed the need for more consultation between competent authorities to benefit from their successful practices with respect to sustainable development, and policies to balance climate change obligations with sustainable development needs.
The meeting was attended by the King’s representative for charity work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Royal Court Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Royal Court Follow-up Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Ateyatallah Al Khalifa and Bahraini Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif.
