Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) first deputy chairman, Bahrain Olympic Committee president and Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa received Bahrain’s athletes on their triumphant return from the 23rd Asian Athletics Championship in Doha.
Bahraini athletes topped the championship with their medal tally of 11 gold, seven silver and four bronze. Receiving them at Bahrain International Airport, Shaikh Khalid hailed their achievement in the major sporting event which, he said, added to the kingdom’s illustrious record in athletics at continental and international levels.
“It’s an achievement we are very proud of. Topping at the continental level is extraordinary as we have broken the Chinese monopoly to open a new page entitled ‘Bahrain_Tops_Asia’.”
Shaikh Khalid said that the result was made possible with the support of His Majesty King Hamad to the field of sports as well as the efforts of His Majesty’s representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs and SCYS chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
He also praised the athletes for their outstanding performances at the Asian event and conveyed His Majesty’s appreciation for the Bahraini champions.
Present were Bahrain Olympics Committee secretary general Mohammed Al Nusf and BAA members.
