TEAM Winning and Al Zaeem booked the last two quarter-finals spots in Group 4 with victories over Forever and Nomas respectively in the Nasser bin Hamad Sports Tournament at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.
Winning hit six goals past their opponents to qualify in style with Mohammed Abdulkareem scoring a brace.
By contrast, Al Zaeem had to sweat it out against Nomas for a hard-fought 1-0 win. Mohammed Khamees found the net for the winners.
Winning advanced to the next stage as group winners on seven points while Al Zaeem also had seven points but an inferior goal difference.
Following 12 days of non-stop matches, Nasser 12 will take a break today before resuming with the quarter-final matches tomorrow and Friday.
The semi-finals take place on Sunday and the final on May 22.
Preparations
The High Organising Committee members of Nasser 12 visited the Bahrain Swimming Association to get briefed on the preparations being made for the swimming competitions.
President of the High Organising Committee Tawfiq Al Salehi said the swimming competitions will be held on the sidelines of Nasser 12 and it will witness the participation of Saudi national swimming team who are presently training in Bahrain.
President of Bahrain Swimming Association Dr Mohammed Mujbel expressed his gratitude to the High Organising Committee for including swimming for the first time in Nasser 12.
The High Organising Committee also hailed the support of sponsoring companies following the entry of Ithmar Bank into the sponsorship family of this prestigious event.
The CEO of Ithmar Bank Ahmed Abdulrahim expressed his pride at sponsoring this event which he described as one of the most prominent sports competitions in Bahrain because it was named after Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs and president of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
