THE quarter-final stage of the Fifth Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Tournament - “Nasser 12” will conclude tonight with two games scheduled at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.
In the first showdown, Team Winning takes on Al Nawayef at 9pm while at 11.15pm Al Zaeem clash with Al Saqr Al Abyadh.
Al Nawayef will be relying on their experience as they have won this tournament in the past and this year too they are confident of putting up a good show.
Team Winning have had an impressive campaign so far given that its their maiden participation in the tournament. The team include several outstanding young players.
In the other match, Al Zaeem will again depend on their strong defence as the team is yet to concede a goal in the group stage. Al Saqr Al Abyadh, on the other hand, are one of the favourites to win this tournament and have a strong squad.
Teenage
Nasser 12 is featuring several under 20 players who have been vying alongside professional players. Among the prominent teenage players are 17-year-old Mohammed Abdulrahman of Jurnas, who is the youngest player in the tournament, and Victorious’ Abdullah Salah Al Rifaei, aged 18 is the second youngest player in the tournament.
Al Rifaei was full of praise at the opportunity given to him to take part in this event and thanked Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs and president of Supreme Council of Youth and Sports.
Meanwhile, the High Organising Committee praised the support extended to the event by Al Jazeera Supermarkets. The backing undoubtedly reflects the supermarkets’ keenness to play a key role in supporting events related to sports and youth in the Kingdom, said a committee member.
CEO of Al Jazeera, Hussain Diwani, said his company was proud to be supporting one of the main local sports events and thanked Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his continued efforts to advance the youth and sports fields movement in Bahrain.
