MUSTAFA Qaed enjoyed a strong day as qualifying continued in the 2019 Godfathers Tournament at Funland Centre.
The event is being held in memory of the late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti and the late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.
Qaed played the daily high series in Group ‘B’ (for intermediate bowlers) with a 660 and rose to the top of his division.
The Bahraini bowler’s impressive outing was his second-best of the competition thus far. It added to his two other top trials of 690 and 639 giving him a 1,989 total and a 221.0 average.
He displaced former leader Abdulrahman Alali, who dropped to second with 220.3 and 1,983, while Essa Taqi followed in third with 218.4 and 1,966.
Ranked fourth through sixth, respectively, were Patrick Toney, Abdulla Almurbati and Ali Abdulla.
Also putting in fine performances late on Saturday night were Emerson Gotencio and Hisham Mohammed.

Gotencio was the evening’s top man playing the overall daily high series of 717 in Group ‘A’ (for elite bowlers).
Mohammed had the best series of 478 in Group ‘C’ (for beginners).
In Group ‘A’, Gotencio’s score was his highest series so far, with his other two being 710 and 692. He raised his average to 235.4 and total to 2,119, putting him in second position.
Abdulla Abdulkarim was the new leader. With trials of 748, 701 and 698, Abdulkarim enjoyed a 238.6 average and a 2,147 total.
Former leader Dante Tisdom dropped to third with 231.3 and 2,082.
Fawaz Abdulla, Yousef Falah and Emad Jahromi rounded out the top six in Group ‘A’.
In Group ‘C’, Mohammed’s high series had little effect on his standing as it was not among his top three trials. He stayed on a 183.4 average and a 1,651 total as the leader in his division.
Ali Mahmoud followed with 177.8 and 1,600 while Joses Garcia was third with 175.7 and 1,581.
Ahmed Refacs, Layla Janahi and Mariam Modara completed the leading six qualifiers.
The qualification round continues at Funland till May 29. At the end of this stage, the first and second from each group advance directly to Round Three while those ranked third through 12th move on to Round Two.
These stages will be played on May 30 and 31 along with the ensuing step-ladder final round.
A total of BD4,400 in prizes is up for grabs with BD1,000 going to the overall champion.
Cash prizes will also be awarded to those finishing in the top 18, as well as the first scorer of a perfect game.
