BAHRAIN’S John Koech had a solid performance last night in finishing fifth in the men’s 3,000 metres steeplechase at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland.
The event was a World Challenge Meeting under the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
Koech completed the race in a time of eight minutes 30.99 seconds. He was more than 12 seconds behind winner Andrew Bayer of the US, who finished in 8:18.29, while Nicholas Kiptanui Bett of Kenya was the runner-up in 8:21.20.
Hometown athlete Topi Raitanen claimed third in 8:21.47, while just ahead of Koech was Tesfaye Deriba of Ethiopia, who claimed fourth place in 8:24.28.
Koech was the lone Bahraini elite athlete competing in Turku.
