A VERDICT date has been set in the case of a gang of alleged human traffickers luring women into the vice trade on false promises.
Eight people – two Thai women, two Thai men, three Bangladeshi men and an Indian man – are on trial at the High Criminal Court charged with human trafficking, forcing victims into prostitution, depending on money from prostitution as well as running a vice den.
A 40-year-old Thai woman in custody, and another unidentified female who is currently at large, were accused of human trafficking and forcing victims into prostitution while also running a vice den.
Two Thai men, aged 48 and 33, were accused of depending on money from prostitution while two Bangladeshis, aged 28 and 36 (the latter at large), were accused of inciting others to run the den.
A 29-year-old Indian man and a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man were accused of running the parlour and inciting prostitution.
Court documents revealed the victims were held captive from January 17 to 29.
The case came to light when a 34-year-old Thai woman managed to get the wi-fi password of the hotel where they were put up and contacted the Thai embassy.
The trial was yesterday adjourned until June 30 for a verdict.
