A VERDICT date has been set in the case of two Thai nationals accused of dealing in drugs and prostitution.
The two, a 26-year-old woman and 35-year-old man, have been accused of possessing methamphetamine, locally known as shabu, with intent to distribute, using the narcotics and prostitution.
The man was also accused of violating residency regulations.
In their first appearance at the High Criminal Court, on May 22, they admitted to the charges but the man denied selling narcotics.
He admitted to prosecutors that he slept with both men and women in exchange for BD30 to BD60 per hour to make a living.
“I get the shabu free from my clients in exchange I spend extra hours with them or help them find dealers,” he added.
The woman admitted to buying shabu from the man for personal use and told prosecutors that she received around BD30 to BD40 per hour for sleeping with clients as her only source of livelihood.
“I came to Bahrain on a tourist visa to work as a prostitute and I have made around BD3,000 in three months,” she told prosecutors in her statement. On March 25, the 35-year-old called me and asked for BD450 worth of shabu I had previously purchased from him, saying he wanted to sell it to another Thai woman.
“I went to this apartment in Juffair and the woman arrived and once he gave her the narcotics and gave me BD440 for it when the police barged into the apartment and we were arrested.”
The trial was yesterday adjourned until June 30 for the verdict.
