MANAMA: Russian tourists spent an estimated BD7.2 million during their stay in Bahrain, according to figures released by tourism officials.
The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) facilities and tourism services director Hesham Al Sakan further said the kingdom received 10,075 tourists from Russia in co-operation with Coral Travel, where the average stay of tourists has reached nine nights, total tourist nights are approximately 34,578 nights.
He was speaking during a round table to discuss the progress in the first quarter especially with chartered flights for visitors to Bahrain.
The event was held at the Palm Hall at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre bringing together leading travel agencies and hotels.
The panel discussion focused on the mechanisms by which competitive pricing in charter operations could be enhanced, methods for BTEA to better determine the availability and distribution of hotel rooms, as well as provide familiarisation trips.
The BTEA’s marketing and tourism promotion director Yousef Al Khan said their continued meetings and extensive efforts in collaboration with hotels and other tourism partners had resulted in attracting more tourists, alongside the efforts of BTEA’s representative offices abroad.
“This has resulted in an increase in the tourist delegations of Bahrain from emerging markets across the world, contributing to the increase in hotel occupancy rates,” said Mr Al Khan.
