Dorothy and her dog Toto travelled along the yellow brick road, singing and dancing with their traveller friends in a glorious showcase of The Wizard of Oz last night.
They proceeded along the winding road bumping into the TinMan, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion, who quickly became friends and joined them on their long journey to meet the wonderful and marvellous Oz.
The main characters gave a breathtaking performance during the Bahrain debut of the famous Broadway production, and a special mention must be made for the Wicked Witch of the West, whose evil laugh and menacing voice was exceptional.
The production was quite a spectacle indeed with fantastic costumes, lights, smoke, and the all-time favourite song and dance numbers to boast.
The set was incredibly faultless and created the perfect backdrop and effects for the lively performance.
Last night’s first in a series of performances in Bahrain was held at the Bahrain Exhibition and Convention Centre and fans young and old gathered in anticipation to watch Dorothy and her band of merry friends.
Based on the American children’s novel written by L Frank Baum, the musical is an enchanting revival of the all-time classic story developed from the ever-popular 1939 MGM film of the same name.
Organised by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, performances of the show will continue at the centre’s Hall 1 in Sanabis until Saturday.
Evening shows will be held daily from 5pm to 7.30pm and daytime shows will take place from 11am to 1.30pm on August 14, 16 and 17.
Tickets cost BD10 for bronze, BD20 for silver, BD30 for gold and BD50 for VIP, while children aged three and under will be allowed free entry.
The Wizard of Oz truly is a treat for the entire family, whether it creates new memories or conjures them up from the past, everyone deserves to experience or re-live the wonderful, whimsical story, so why wait?
