AMATEUR comedians, musicians, dancers and artists are being given a chance to turn their hobbies into full-time careers in entertainment, thanks to a new initiative.
A new incubator, Tarteeb Talents, has been set up to give people the opportunity to make money of talents such as acting, dancing and videography.
This will be done through a series of workshops and training opportunities based on individual needs, along with networks to connect talents.
Tarteeb Holding founder and chief executive Mohammed Al Muharraqi told the GDN this will also help strengthen Bahrain’s talent pool.
He said the company was founded following the success of an initiative in which a group of social media influencers underwent training and development, with some ending up quitting their day jobs and making a career of it.
Tarteeb also hosted a stand-up comedy show called Stuck in Traffic that featured local comedians, who underwent training and mentorship programmes to develop their sets for the show.
Mr Al Muharraqi said the first group of 45 Bahrainis with various talents have been selected for the programme and will undergo training soon.
“We want to help these people who already have a talent and are trying to establish themselves in entertainment, either through photography, comedy, dancing, and we want to help them develop their talent into a career,” he said.
“We have already chosen 45 people with different skills and we will provide them with what they need on an individual basis, like we did for the comedians we had for our shows.
“We got in touch with local talents, got them people to help them refine their sets and then ran a show for them.
“We organise many events that bring in entertainers and dancers, and we usually have to go abroad and pay for them to come here.
“So, we thought why not look for local talents that already exist and have so much potential and help them reach that potential.”
He added that the selected group of 45 people will undergo intense training and mentorship for three to four months, before opening up the programme for applications.
