MUSIC fans in Bahrain have been urged to vote for a Bahraini hip-hop artist who, along with a Kuwaiti RnB performer, is in the running for a major global award next month.
Flipperachi and Daffy have been nominated in the ‘Favourite Group’ category for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Abu Dhabi 2019.
The first Middle Eastern International edition of the awards ceremony hosted by the American TV network will take place in the UAE capital between September 19 and 21.
Three other groups have been nominated in the same category – Moroccan brother-sister duo Omar and Rajaa Belmir, Egyptian funk band BoyBand, and Egyptian world music band Sharmoofers.
Also known as Flipp, the young rising star Hussam Aseem is recognised as one of the few passionate and devoted Arab rappers in Bahrain and the Middle East.
Meanwhile, Nawaf Fahed, better known as Daffy, is the man behind the hit single Samboosa.
He is a singer, songwriter, and producer who started out singing at the age of nine and began writing songs at 15.
Taking the GCC and Middle East music scene by storm, Flipperachi and Daffy became a household name with the launch of their album Sarat.
A fusion of hip-hop Khaleeji beats and Arabic lyrics, the songs in Sarat appeal to both regional and international audiences.
In the past, the two have collaborated on multiple hit singles that have topped regional charts.
These include Samboosa, Shino Al Shino Al Kalam Hatha, Laywagef, as well as the hugely popular Ee Laa, which surpassed a whopping 26 million YouTube views and was nominated for an Arab Nation Music Award for Best Independent Song.
Both artists are part of Outlaw Productions, a leading hip-hop organisation in Bahrain.
Organised by Nickelodeon and the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, the awards celebrate children’s favourite artists across a number of categories including movies, television, music, sport, gaming, digital platforms and more.
A brand-new voting mechanism leading up to the big show on September 20 will reveal who will take home a coveted orange blimp award at a star-studded ceremony featuring musical and entertainment performances from international and regional artists.
For the first time ever, children have the power to choose their favourites to win in each category by casting their votes on Nickelodeon’s digital site kca.nickelodeonarabia.com, on Instagram using the hashtag of their favourite nominee or via the Nickelodeon Play app.
Children can vote for 64 nominees across 16 categories, featuring local and international talent.
The event is part of a wider programme of activities organised by the Abu Dhabi authority in partnership with Viacom International Media Networks, which will bring a series of activities for children and families to the UAE over the next five years.
These include the brand-new World of Nickelodeon, a three-day Nickelodeon activity which will include two musical performances from local artists.
At The World of Nickelodeon, families will be able to interact with all their favourite characters and experience the real world of Nickelodeon from September 19 to 21.
Both Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Abu Dhabi and The World of Nickelodeon will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
The event will be the first of five annual Kids’ Choice Awards events that will be hosted in Abu Dhabi, with versions of the event having previously also been staged in Los Angeles, Berlin, London and Mexico City.
Tickets for the ceremony can be purchased online at kca.nickelodeonarabia.com.
