A new batch of Bahraini pilots have taken to the skies with the country’s national carrier Gulf Air as they completed ground and base training courses. The eight pilots are now operating as second officers to complete a set of flying hours and earn their next stripe to become first officers in the future. They are Maryam Majed, Ahmed Al Balooshi, Mohamed Shareef, Yusuf Al Kooheji, Ahmed Al Kooheji, Salman Mahmood, Mohamed Baslar and Khalid Al Gaoud. Gulf Air said in a statement yesterday that it was committed to investing in its Bahraini workforce and their career development and as such, it continues to provide opportunities for nationals to take over senior positions in the company. It said 90 per cent of its employees based at the headquarters in Muharraq are Bahraini along with nearly 70pc of its pilots.
