The sumptuous Gujarati Thali lunch at Delmon International Hotel’s Al Hamra Restaurant is a royal treat.
Although the lunch is a buffet, in the sense that the thali is unlimited, the dishes are served the first time in several katoris (bowls) in a huge stainless steel plate.
The luxurious Indian-style lunch comes with a plate of roasted papads served alongside assorted chutneys and chaas.
Snacks include medium-sized dhokla and patra, with the traditional Gujarati sautéed julienne cabbage and carrots that compliment the taste and texture of everything else on the plate.
The main course consists of dal, which is slightly sweet, a tasty green vegetable dry preparation of spinach and different varieties of green beans (papdi, French beans and green peas), besides the usual pulses, drumstick kadi, aloo in tamatar gravy, sev tamatar and all-time favourite undhiyo.
Along with the rice and khichdi, hot assorted rotis will also be served such as the thepla, phulka and large puffed puris prepared in front of your eyes.
For dessert, sitaphal
basundi or aam raas is available based on seasonal availability, while jelebi served hot prepared in pure desi ghee is served occasionally.
The entire menu is prepared by the chef on a daily basis and changes depending on the seasonal availability of ingredients.
The chef insists on using fresh fruits and vegetables and no canned products of any kind are used during preparation.
The dishes are not spicy or very oily either and the portions are so generous that there is no room left for a second helping.
At the end of the meal, the traditional mukhvas with dana and sweet saunf is offered.
This authentic Gujarati experience is available as a great treat at BD3, with the meal costing BD1.9 for children under eight years old.
So treat yourself today and head to the Delmon International Hotel’s Al Hamra Restaurant for a delightful feast.
