One of the oldest expatriate clubs in Bahrain, the Young Goans Club (YGC) was formed 66 years ago in 1953.
As the sole officially-registered Goan community organisation, the club adheres to the guidelines for expatriate clubs and
associations established by the Labour and Social Development Ministry of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The club hosts village feasts and festivals and cultural, culinary, musical and sporting activities, providing a wide range of family entertainment. It organises child and youth development activities like Toastmaster’s public speaking courses, Konkani skits and singing events. It also serves as a place for the lonely Goan expatriate worker to visit and mingle with fellow Goans, in addition to being a space for families, children and individuals to get together for various Goan activities.
YGC aims to foster and maintain the Goan fraternal identity and heritage by welcoming, involving and uniting members of all sections of the community, irrespective of those living in Bahrain, with its all-inclusive approach.
It strives to encourage Goan children born and living in Bahrain to acquire knowledge about Goa, the Konkani language, its culture and heritage, thus helping to make all its activities and events more fun, enjoyable and interesting, making its programmes even more meaningful to the community.
At the helm is YGC president, businessman Noel Fernandes from Margao, a former basketball star of the 80s and 90s who represented Goa in all national categories of the sport.
