MANAMA: Bahrain Businesswomen Society (BBS) yesterday welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bahrain.
The visit emphasises the depth of trade and investment relations, as Bahrain and India are culturally very close thanks to the travel and trading history for centuries, the society said in a statement.
BBS chairwoman Ahlam Janahi said the visit is “an opportunity to bolster relations and build new partnerships that would fulfil the aspirations and ambitions of the private sector in both countries, based on Bahrain’s orientations to open up new markets and consolidate existing ones and strengthen its trade relations globally.”
BBS said that Bahrain has a long history of freedom of women and no gender difference.
BBS is a society of women business owners across almost all sectors and actively working under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad since 2000. It currently has more than 110 active members and multilateral relations with various trade organisations globally.
“Bahrain Businesswomen Society had the honour to be part of the delegation during the historic visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, to India in May 2012. We were also honoured to be part of the delegation in the historic visit of His Majesty King Hamad to India in 2014,” the society said.
BBS has signed several agreements with many associations from India, including the Indian Businesswomen’s Association in 2014, Bahrain-India Society in 2015, the Thattai Hindu Mercantile Community this year, and the Asian Arab Chamber of Commerce this year.
The society said that it has five Indian businesswomen members: Shanthini Rahamathullah, Harsha Bhatia, Gopika Beri, Deepali Mukesh and Sanjana Bhatia.
