A best-selling book about the life of a junior doctor is being turned into a television show in the UK.
Author Adam Kay’s 2017 novel This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor enthralled readers across the UK and beyond, so this is welcome news for his legion of fans.
Kay is a comedy writer and former junior doctor who produced the book from his personal diaries kept from his time on an NHS labour ward.
It details everything from the 97-hour work weeks to the life and death decisions of a junior doctor.
The memoir won four National Book Awards: Book of the Year, Non-Fiction Book of the Year, New Writer of the Year and the Zoe Ball Book Club of the Year.
Produced by Sister Pictures, the eight episode show, each running for 45 minutes on BBC Two, will be set on a labour ward and document the highs and lows of the life of a junior doctor.
The casting and the release date are yet to be announced.
I will be reviewing this book in October’s GDN books pages, so watch this space.
