BAHRAIN head coach Helio Sousa yesterday called up veteran international Sayed Mohammed Adnan for their match against Cambodia on Tuesday in the qualifying for the Fifa World Cup 2022 and the AFC Asian Cup 2023.
Adnan will replace fellow-defender Sayed Mahdi Baqer, who has suffered an injury and was not able to travel with the team to Phnom Penh, according to Bahrain Football Association (BFA).
The national team left late last night for the Cambodian capital.
The delegation is headed by BFA board member Saleh Al Balooshi and includes BFA technical department head Abed Al Ansari, Sousa, assistant coaches Jose Carneiro and Ahmed Issa, fitness coach Jose Herculano, goalkeeper coach Pedro Roma, administrator Yahya Buallay, media coordinator Mohammed Abdulghaffar and medical and support staff.
The 23-member team consists of Adnan, Abdulla Yousuf, Mohammed Al Hardan, Sayed Dhiya Saeed, Jassim Al Shaikh, Hamad Al Dosari, Ahmed Bu Ghammar, Mohammed Abdulwahab, Abdulwahab Al Maloud, Sayed Mohammed Jaffar, Waleed Al Hayam, Ismaeel Abdullatif, Ahmed Abdulla, Ali Maden, Sayed Shubar Alawi, Sayed Redha Issa, Ali Haram, Komail Alaswad, Abdullah Al Hazza, Sami Al Hussaini, Ahmed Nabil, Mohammed Adel and Issa Jihad.
The match on Tuesday is scheduled for a 2.30pm kick-off, Bahrain time.
Both Bahrain and Cambodia opened their qualification campaigns with draws. The Bahrainis drew 1-1 against Iraq at home while Cambodia had a similar result at home against Hong Kong the same evening.
