Sharjah: A police official reported that a newborn boy was left on the doorstep of a mosque in Al Qasba area.
The abandoned newborn was found by a mosque guard around 4am on Saturday who alerted the imam (prayer leader) of the mosque and the police.
The Indian guard named Mohammad Yousef Javed has lived in the UAE for 18 years and is a resident of Al Qasba.
He stated that he covered the baby with a prayer rug due to the weather and reported the incident to the police.
CCTV system footage was viewed to help authorities find the person who left the baby at the mosque's doorstep.
The newborn boy, who has an Asian appearance, was taken to Al Qasimi Hospital and is estimated to be one or two days old.
The baby is in good health and will be taken to a child protection committee, according to hospital officials.
