Around 2,500 people turned up to donate blood during a major campaign to mark Ashoora.
The camp ended four hours early on the second day after collection bags ran out.
Organisers were forced to shut doors on those present and stop accepting more donors by 7pm despite hundreds still queuing up.
Thousands of people showed up to donate blood at the annual Imam Hussain Campaign for Blood Donation, with 2,500 queuing up on Sunday for the women’s event and yesterday for the men’s camp.
The drive is being organised by Naim Charity Society in co-operation with the Health Ministry’s blood bank at the Naim Youth Centre.
“We have collected blood from 88 women and 450 men. The drive ended early as the required capacity at the men’s event was met and collection bags ran out,” said campaign organising committee president Dr Fadhel Al Nasheet.
Around 16,500 bags have been collected by the bank since the campaign was launched in 2000. Members of the Bahrain Society for Sickle Cell Anaemia Patient Care were present to explain the importance of donating blood.
