Riyadh: A student was killed by a classmate after a fight broke out between the 12-year-old boys at Bishr bin Al Walid Primary School in Western Riyadh, Monday morning.
The incident was captured by the surveillance cameras located inside the school, which showed that other students intervened to pull the boys apart and succeeded.
Teachers took the victim, Moatez Al Harthi, who was thrown to the ground and choked to death, to an empty room to administer emergency first aid and contacted the Red Crescent, which arrived 20 minutes later.
However, the boy was pronounced dead before his arrival at the hospital.
The boy's guardian was also contacted at the beginning of the incident, however, he was unable to arrive on time, according to the school's official witness report.
The father of the victim said he has forgiven the schoolboy who strangled his son.
“I went to the police station where I registered a request to forgive the pupil who caused my son’s death,” the father told Saudi website Al Arabiya.
“I want him to return to his family and school as soon as possible. My forgiveness is for God’s sake,” he added.
Hamad Al Wahaibi, Education Director-General in Riyadh along with education employees offerred their condolences during the boy's funeral, on Tuesday.
Prince of Riyadh Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz and the minister of Education Dr Hamad bin Mohammed Al Shaikh also sent their sympathies to the boy's father.
